  1. James Nesbitt hair

Questions asked this week about James Nesbitt rapidly changing hairstyle. Last week on the Graham Norton show, it was the short, salt and pepper look which suits him very well.

Last night at the Balloon D’Or gala, it was longer and darker, slightly old fashioned looking too. Simply, it’s very likely a hair piece for a part. Even his eyebrows looked darker and more groomed than usual. Definitely no hair transplant can grow that quickly!

    Dr Rogers FUE Day One

Inevitably, there was a lot of messing about with hair cuts, cameras and videos, before actually starting. But the photos speak for themselves.

Dr Rogers FUE hair transplant blog

Dr Rogers had a strip hair transplant in 2007 but didn’t get around to having another, until now!

Since he was very pleased with the results of just the one session and being so busy performing hair transplants for other patients, it’s always been on the back burner. But now with another birthday approaching (39 and a few days..) it was time again.

Over the next few posts, Dr Rogers will show the post op recovery of FUE, so that patients can know how much time off work is required etc. He will also explain the differences between FUE vs Strip, as a patient experience. This puts him in a fairly unique position to help guide patients to make the right choice for them. Why did he have FUE this time and not another strip? What would he do if he had a third hair transplant?

  5. Cheap hair transplants

    Cheap hair transplants

Don’t be like this guy, as reported by the Mirror newspaper, who went to Turkey for a cheap hair transplant and paid the price for it – he got what he paid for it.

It does make a serious point though, it’s unusual for most patients to be able to receive more than 3000 follicular unit grafts in one session hair transplant. It is easy to be misguided into thinking more is automatically better. But in terms of healing and regrowth, the effect on surrounding hair, the overall result, is better to be slightly cautious about graft numbers. Many factors are involved but it is all too easy for a sales person to try to “up sell” more grafts than needed or possible, just to get a higher commission.

  6. Hair transplant numbers

Hair transplant numbers 2014, from the ISHRS census:

    Male 85%    Female 15%

244,000 hair transplants in the USA

    100,000 hair transplants in Europe

Large increases seen in non scalp hair transplants such as moustache, beard, eyelash, eyebrow, chest and pubic hair transplants.

Overall, the numbers of hair transplants have increased 76% from 2006 to 2014

  7. Female hair loss

Female hair loss is far more common than people think but there are surprisingly few hair clinics in the UK who specialise in women’s hair loss. At Westminster Clinic, we have always treated female pattern hair loss but there has been a recent improvement in the number of treatments available. To that end, Dr Rogers has decided to increase the number of consultations available during his hair loss consultation days, specifically for female hair loss.

  8. Status Quo

Rick Parfitt of Status Quo might just be the next band member to have a hair transplant with Dr Rogers.

The ever youthful Rick appeared on the BBC One Show to have a hair makeover and revealed that he is now finally starting to get some temple hair loss. But with some help from his celebrity stylist, he rocked and rolled away the years. However, it may be easier just to hair a hair transplant, like Francis Rossi did with Dr Rogers back in 1999. He didn’t let it get him “Down down down.”

  9. Afro hair transplants

At Westminster clinic, Dr Rogers has seen a marked increase in the number of Afro hair transplants, not just for men but more significantly for women.

Tightly braided hair styles are resulting in many women needing hair transplants to improve hair loss on the hairline, temples and side burn areas.

Often started young, in pre teens and teens, it can leave black women looking balding by the time they are in their twenties. No cream or lotions or shampoos can stop this, only changing hair styles away from braids to softer styles can help. But it’s often too late by the time it’s noticed and then the only choice is hair transplants.

  10. Glasgow footballer has hair transplant

Scottish Premiership striker Kris Boyd has become the latest in a line of footballers including Wayne Rooney and James McFadden to have a hair transplant, as reported by STV news.

The Kilmarnock star was inspired to have the procedure after seeing the transformation of McFadden, who he said was “a lot balder” than himself, with hair “worse than mine”.

He had 1762 grafts implanted over the course of two days in the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant at The Glasgow Clinic, a hair loss clinic which Dr Rogers has performed strip surgery for, when patients are unsuitable for FUE or prefer the quicker strip hair transplant technique.

  11. Hair Transplants in Songs

On tonight’s Simon Mayo show, Loudon Wainwright 3rd, played his song “Sinatra Slept Here” which in the lyrics, had a line questioning whether Frank Sinatra had had “hair plugs or a toupee.” Popular rumour certainly has it that Ol’ Blue Eyes did have punch grafts back in the 60’s/70’s but what he’d make of this song is anybody’s guess. Possibly phone his friends or employ his lawyer?

  12. Alan Carr now had a hair transplant?

Alan Carr’s hair has already been looking fuller for the past 5 years but appears significantly thicker in recent weeks. Ironically, his guest this week was Ben Miller, whose thinning hairline also looked suspiciously healthier since leaving Death in Paradise.

They could both be on Propecia but the rapid improvement suggests both have had hair transplants and most likely the strip (FUT) method as neither have appeared recently with shaven hair and could easily have hidden any stitches underneath their existing hair styles.
