Additional hair doctor

We are pleased to announce that two more colleagues will be joining the team of Dr Rogers and Dr Stevenson. As ever, they receive high quality training and are chosen for their professionalism and interest in combating hair loss.

Dr Rogers will personally oversee their training and day to day work, to ensure our high standards are maintained. In addition, they will visit other clinics, workshops and conferences to gather the latest information and techniques.

Patients will benefit from more choice of appointments, weekends and shorter waiting times. The London clinic will open five days per week.

Mr Rejali will be joining us in Stratford on Avon and because of his Head and Neck surgical training, will be specialising in pushing our graft numbers above 3000 in a single session.

The other doctor who will work in London will be announced shortly.

Eyebrow Restoration in IOS

Dr Rogers was interviewed this week for an article in the Independent on Sunday newspaper, concerning the latest craze in California for eyebrow and eyelash hair transplantation. This is to increase the natural fullness of these areas, rather than replacing bald patches on the eyebrows or eyelids. We have certainly noticed an increase in enquiries about this niche surgery, although in this country, it certainly wouldn't yet be regarded as routine.

Hair Cloning

We are frequently asked when hair cloning or hair multiplication might become a commercial reality. Realistically, it's unlikely before ten years. This would be a cure for baldness indeed but there are many steps to overcome, not least, safety. There would have to be absolute proof that genetic tinkering to regrow hair, wouldn't cause cancer. Such proof would probably take that long.

Jude Law may have hair transplant

Widely reported in the Sunday papers, Jude Law may be thinking about a hair transplant. However, like every hair loss patient, it is important to do your homework first and consider all the options - whether hair transplantation is suitable for you and if so, which type, strip or FUE? New Surgeon - Dr Stevenson

We believe we have now found an excellent new doctor to join the team. She has had excellent dermatology & plastic surgery training over the past 18 months but wishes to concentrate more on developing her cosmetic surgical and medical skills. She will start her induction day next week. If all goes favourably, we would expect the training to take approximately 3 months, operating solo by about Christmas. However, updating and learning is lifelong for any surgeon and she will continue to be mentored by Dr Rogers. She will also attend conferences, workshops and colleagues clinics, as part of good clinical practice to gain experience and share skills within the hair transplant community. She will be the fifth hair surgeon taught by Dr Rogers and will mostly be based in London, although the two Doctors will cross cover for each other during holiday times. The training covered will include:FUE Strip technique Medication - Propecia, Dutasteride etc Botox Restylane Isologen At first, she will only take on the smaller cases but in the fullness of time, build up to the large, more complicated procedures. The two doctors may also work in unison as well on particularly large or difficult procedures such 3000+ graft sessions.Further information will follow once she starts with us officially.Patients who are suitable and would like to take advantage of a shorter waiting time with our new surgeon, can benefit from a discount, based on our standard prices, in the New Year.

Online Propecia or Avodart Prescriptions

When making the decision to start Propecia (aka Finasteride ) or Avodart (aka Dutasteride ), it is important to know the full facts. At Rogers Medical, Dr Rogers believes in consulting each patient personally, not just in response to a health questionaire. This ensures that the medication is appropriate for that patient. We also use a reputable pharmacy to dispense prescriptions individually to fulfill our legal requirements. In contrast, a recent investigation by the MHRA ( Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency ), discovered that approximately one third of all internet precriptions were in fact fake. Not only is that a waste of hard earned money, it denies the patient of potential benefit. In hair loss terms, taking fake drugs means losing more hair but believing that they simply don't work for you. They probably would however, if genuine prescriptions were dispensed. Both 5 DHT inhibitors work in at least 80% of patients. So, although patients may prefer the convenience and annonymity of internet medication, particularly understandable with Viagra but why take the chance? As a reputable clinic, we include the consultation as part of our charges but still remain competitive on price and Dr Rogers is always available for follow up advice and consultation for free.

Hair Transplants - not just for Hollywood Stars - Shaun Williamson

Eastenders celebrity Shaun Williamson, who played hapless Barry Evans in the BBC TV soap, has gone public about his follicular unit hair restoration. He should be applauded for doing so. Many patients feel very embarrassed about "trying to improve their looks" but stars who have had hair surgery, are paving the way for general public acceptance.Of course, in Shaun's case, it is a dramatic change, but it shows how regaining hair can affect your confidence - boosting self esteem. For men whose hair is still thinning, it is much easier to blend in the improvement - the hair transplants grow steadily, gradually thickening the balding areas over six months. Francis Rossi was probably the first UK rock star to positively stand up for hair transplantation but he clearly isn't going to be the last. Even the Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi has admitted to a recent hair transplant. The lead singer of Dr Rogers' favourite bands, Bono of U2, was rumoured to have had a hair transplant. With so many advances in the past ten years, stars no longer need worry about hair loss affecting their TV or film image. And neither does the average man. You can do something about it, if you want to. It's now your choice.

Hair Transplant Costs and Clinic Policy

Our policy is to normally perform hair restoration surgery on only one patient per day, whether it is only 750 grafts or 2000 plus. We feel that this is the correct approach - if the patient or a staff member is delayed, we know that we don't need to rush. In addition, rushing local anaesthetic injections can make them uncomfortable, when normally you should be hardly aware of them.

Suitable Body Hair Transplant ( BHT ) candidates

Although there has been a lot of interest in body hair transplantation using FUE (ie from chest, back, shoulders etc), it is far from an established treatment. Obviously, the hair itself is usually quite different, although sometimes there may be a surprisingly close match. There are differences in texture and hair length, although this anecdotally does improve with a number of hair cycles.

Hair Loss Consultation fees, costs and prices

Rogers Medical has previously offered free consultations to discuss hair loss options. Unfortunately, as hair transplantation has evolved, more time is required to extract the hair and meticulously place thousands of grafts. As Dr Rogers believes that prospective patients must always see the surgeon, not a salesperson, it means that his time is ever more precious. Dr Rogers is also very hands on during surgery, even though these longer cases require him to delegate some of the procedure to nursing staff and technicians.

Body Hair Transplant via FUE - UK First

Dr Rogers has just performed chest hair transplantation into a central chest scar (from an open heart operation). Follicular Unit Extraction was used to remove existing chest hair from the pectoral areas into the wide scar. This provides a perfect hair match, rather than using scalp hair, to camouflage the hairless scar. This would not have been possible without the development of FUE.

Price changes

The introductory fee of £500 for 250 FUE grafts is now closing although it will remain low - it is changing to £1000 for 250 FUE grafts. As we improve our efficiency, then this will increase to £2000 for 500 grafts. Our pricing structure for strip surgery will shortly be realigned to take account of this. However, the decision on which method of surgery will be best suited to individual patients, must lie with discussion at consultation.

Hair Multiplication Trial Update

We are looking for a patient, Norwood 5,6 or 7, to take part in a small hair multiplication study. The growth of these will then be compared at 3 monthly intervals.

2000 graft sessions now available

With the recent advances in techniques and equipment, we are now able to perform 2000 follicular unit graft mega sessions on selected patients. It is important to understand that this is dependent on a high density donor area, preferably with dark, thick calibre hair. The patient will be a Norwood classification of 4A or higher. Other uses for hair transplantation

Eyebrow, beard and pubic hair transplants are specialised uses of hair restoration techniques. This may be because of burns and trauma, genetic or cultural reasons. Since the advent of the FUE techniques, experiments have been carried out to transplant body hair e.g. Chest hair, to the scalp. The evidence so far does suggest that some of the characteristics of the body hair do change (length, texture etc) and become more like scalp hair. This may become an additional donor source for some patients.

Hair loss & treatment in Radiotherapy patients

Rogers Medical have recently performed hair transplants on a young female patient who had radiotherapy for a brain tumour. After only 3 months however, she is noticing significant regrowth and her 6 month post op photos will be shown as soon as we are able.Although hair restoration is primarily thought of as a treatment for male pattern baldness, it also has other uses such as this, eyebrow restoration, disguising of facelift scars etc.
