Do Hair Transplants Really Work

This is the commonest question that UK patients ask at consultation, unlike hair transplant patients in the USA. Of course, hair transplantation really works but hair restoration techniques are much less known about in the UK. PRP Technique

New treatments are constantly evaluated here at The Westminster Hair Clinic. The latest treatment is PRP or Protein rich Plasma, which is the fluid flowing through blood vessels, carrying the blood cells along. In PRP, there are various chemicals such as growth factors, which may help stimulate hair growth. We will shortly be offering this treatment. However, the full benefit of this hair regrowth treatment is not known. In tests so far, good benefit has been seen in alopecia areata and moderate regrowth in male pattern hair loss. It is a treatment that will probably need repeating every three months but it does show some promise, although not a cure. Please contact us for further details.

The One Show

This TV programme very briefly looked at hair transplantation but sadly took the usual cheap and quick "mickey take" angle. They were even quite rude about Dr Farjo and his lack of hair. Overall, very unprofessional and uninformative. It was a shame they didn't ask Dr Rogers first, as his result in one session alone, is far more dramatically better. Unfortunately, they chose to concentrate on a patient who'd had a less impressive result than can be achieved.

Bad news for balding men

A recent survey on a dating site, tracked the number of responses to an advert featuring a photo of a man with a full head of hair against the identical picture but with the hair removed by computer to make him look bald. Sadly, the advert with a picture of the man with a full head of hair, had many more responses, which really confirms what most balding men know deep down - for most men hair loss does affect perceived their attractiveness.

Credit crunch - good time for hair

Despite the credit crunch, now is a good time to get your hair transplant performed. Most patients have to save a little for each procedure but mortgage rates have come right down, freeing up some spare cash each month. Petrol and food, both have seen their sky high costs fall recently, so it seems a shame not to spend it and help the economy! Likewise, like every clinic, we want to encourage you to book in, so we also have discounted costs for short notice and cancellation appointments. Admittedly, our discounts aren't as deep as others but that's because we are keen to maintain standards at all costs. Nobody wants a substandard result even if it is a "substandard" price. We maintain our policy of only one patient per day, one doctor per patient. You can be sure that the Westminster Clinic does not "pile it high and sell it cheap." And never will.

Brain so big it pushed his hair out!

This lurid title has been used by the Daily Mail newspaper, to describe Sir James Crosby, HBOS bank chief. Whatever caused his hair loss, it certainly wasn't his brain. He clearly has male pattern baldness, caused by a healthy tesosterone level. Testosterone has been linked to risk taking behaviours, which would have appeared to cause the major financial problems in banking. Not his big brain.

MPB in Art

Male Pattern baldness appears less often in works of art than in real life. An exception is in depictions of saints, in whom baldness conveys holiness.
