Dermal fillers

Whether it's the simple passage of time or damage from the sun's intense rays, dermal  fillers subtly help turn back the clock and instantly erase the signs of ageing.

What are Dermal fillers?

Modern Dermal fillers consist of synthetically created Hyaluronic Acid; the successor to collagen injections. They replicate collagen in the skin by firming the skin, lifting out lines and wrinkles instantly replacing volume. By having the characteristics of a humectant (water holder) Hyaluronic Acid  helps keep the skin supple, hydrated and volumous. The effect of Dermal fillers typically last up to 6-12 months, but you can have a "top-up" procedure at any time to maintain the effect. Ultimately dermal fillers are non-permanent and are absorbed naturally and safely by the body over time.

The fillers are injected under the skin using a very small needle by a trained medical professional. The procedure is quick, virtually painless and the results immediate. The extent to which the needle is injected and the consistency of gel used is determined by the depth of the wrinkle or fold to be treated. There maybe some slight swelling or bruising but this usually clears within 24-48 hours, concealing makeup can be applied immediately.

Introducing Juvederm Ultra

Juvederm Ultra is a prestigious range of dermal fillers  from Allergan the makers of BOTOX®.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers which can be lumpy and give uneven results, the Hyaluronic Acid in Juvederm Ultra is blended into a homogenous gel, leading to an instant, smoother, more natural finish.
As the gel is so fine, smaller needles are needed to  inject and discomfort is further minimised by the unique addition of pain killing Lidocaine Anaesthetic. Juvederm Ultra is the only family of Hyaluronic Acid dermal filler that is FDA approved for results upto 12 months, allowing your result to last for longer!

What areas can be treated?

Ultimately any area of the face that needs volume replacement or augmentation can be treated with Juvederm Ultra.
Juvederm Ultra 2 can be used to treat early fine break lines around the eyes and mouth or be used to replace lost volume in the “tear trough” area
Juvederm Ultra 3 is the gold standard all rounder and can used to lift wrinkles and folds around the mouth or for lip enhancement
Juvederm Ultra 4 is designed for use in deep folds and creases or for cheek augmentation or more significant lip volume.

Sculptra™- The Liquid Facelift

As we get older the mid face area undergoes changes. The supportive fat degrades and bone thins leading to loss of volume. This accelerates in
women after the menopause. Collagen, which is the skins natural scaffolding also begins to degenerate. Bone loss isn’t just limited to the
cheek area but also occurs around the temple and jaw. This results in a looser skin and less support to hold it up leading to hollow temples, loss of cheek bone structure, folds around the mouth and loss of a taut jawline.

A surgeon would be able to restore the tightness of your face by hitching up skin and muscle, but the volume loss which is the ultimate cause would
need to be replaced usually by taking fat from elsewhere from your body and injecting it into the areas of facial loss.

“Sculptra”, known as the “Liquid Facelift” is a celebrities favourite and has been used in hospitals for many years to treat patients with lipoatrophy
or fat loss.

Unlike a filler, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator working with your body to naturally replace lost volume. It is injected around the face with a fine needle stimulating the return of collagen and so lifting lax tissue, replacing hollow temples, lost cheek bones and tightening loose skin. It is a gradual process and several treatments are required usually 8-10 weeks apart.

As the results take time to manifest they are very natural. Apart from the risk of bruising and some mild swelling and redness, most people find they
can return to work straight away. As well as being used to replace lost volume it can be used to enhance the face safely, for example in those wanting higher cheekbones.
