Chemical peels
Chemical peeling is exactly that! - The peeling of the skin using a chemical. The process has been with us for centuries, Cleopatra and the ancient Romans used various food acids to peel their skin.
What is chemical peeling?
A chemical peel removes the outer layers of the skin stimulating the growth of new skin, this:
- Reduces fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth.
- Reduces fine wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging and hereditary factors.
- Improves the appearance of mild surface scarring.
- Treats certain types of acne.
- Reduces age/liver spots, freckles and dark patches due to pregnancy or the taking of birth control pills (melasma).
- Improves the look and feel of skin that has become dull in texture and colour.
At The Westminster Clinic we use a combination of superficial to medium depth peels including those from “Skinceuticals” and “Skin Tech Easy TCA”
SkinCeuticals Gel Peels are medically classed as light or superficial peels. They comprise two distinctive peels with two different acids - glycolic and salicylic acid.
LA Peels are medically classed as superficial to medium peels. They contain a combination of Resorcinol, Lactic & Salicylic acid, and are stronger than glycolic or salicylic acid peels alone. LA Peels tend to be recommended for more difficult to treat skin conditions.
Ultimately, the choice of which peel we recommend depends upon your skin’s condition and sensitivity in conjunction with the results that you desire.
The acids in these peels remove dead cells from the surface of the skin and stimulate new cell growth, making a visible difference to the look and feel of your skin.
The lighter peels can achieve improvement without any significant recovery time, and with minimal complications. Medium strength peels will cause some significant shedding of the skin but can achieve better results.
Easy TCA From SkinTech
Easy TCA Peel can be used on all types of skin e.g. fine skin, normal skin or greasy or thick skin. It can also be used safely and effectively on black and Asian skin. There is no need for any skin preparation when using Easy TCA Peel and it can be applied directly on top of makeup, although it is advisable to clean the skin with our special cleansing foam
After applying the Easy TCA Peel to the skin the patient will experience some mild heat or irritation. This shows the product is working. The practitioner will be looking for the first visible signs of "frosting" after which they will apply a post peel cream, which will immediately stop the irritation. After approximately 30 minutes to one hour the skin will feel more taut and healthy.

Easy TCA Peel can be used on all types of skin e.g. fine skin, normal skin or greasy or thick skin. It can also be used safely and effectively on black and Asian skin.

Your skin may flake after 3 – 5 days. Not all patients shed skin in the same way, as all patients are different. Rest assured you will not shed your skin completely like a snake! When you do start to peel, do not rub the skin harshly or use exfoliant products. These can cause redness and irritation and possible infection. Continue to use the moisturising cream supplied by your Easy TCA Peel clinic as directed. It is important to remember that whilst undergoing treatment with Easy TCA Peel the skin has little or no protection to UV light (both UVA and UVB). Therefore it is important not to expose the skin to sun light for at least two weeks following the Easy TCA Peel treatment. You should always wear a sunscreen (minimum SPF25), even in winter There are a number of special creams available to be used in combination with Easy TCA Peel. It is very important to remember that you should not use moisturising creams that contain fruit acids as these may cause dryness and irritation.
